Diary of a Series lll Restoration

Welcome to LucyLandRover.co.uk, a web site dedicated to the restoration and maintenance of a series lll Land Rover, called as you might have guessed - Lucy.

History

Lucy is a 1983 2.25l diesel station wagon, that was purchased via eBay in 2004. She was a runner - just, and had sat neglected in a wood in Derbyshire for the previous 4 years after failing the MOT. I was under no illusion that it would take some work to get her roadworthy, but just how much was yet to be discovered.

Eight years on, after several partial rebuilds, numerous minor repairs, I’ve decided to do the job properly and undertake a ground up rebuild. Hopefully I’ll be passing on the tips and pitfalls I’ve learned along the way, to help anyone else who owns or is thinking of buying a series lll.

If you’ve never driven a series lll diesel Land Rover, I’d like to pass on the following quote I came across not long after getting Lucy back on the road, and it sums it up perfectly.

“Imagine putting your head in the engine bay of a tractor at full revs, while someone hits you repeatedly in the small of the back with a spade” - that is what driving Lucy is like, but its great fun as well.
